Looks aside, it's the promise that really matters once the rings are exchanged. The ring displays a message of devotion to the world and the couple. If the couple were to break up, the rings would probably be returned or stored away.
Love is the number one reason for wearing and exchanging promise rings. If you only want a ring just for fashion purposes, you have the option of purchasing a right-hand ring. These are kind of like a promise ring in reverse. They express self-love and self respect. They are ideal for women who are single, especially just newly single. They are a great pick me up, for any sisters feeling down about a recent break up. Sometimes divorced women will buy themselves a right hand ring after a marriage break up. Maybe it's not quite as romantic as a promise ring, but it serves the purpose well.
